Does anyone know if this is possible and, if it is, which models are best to purchase to do this?

Also, can a Canadian Sirius receiver be converted to American?

Well I have two of the SRSIR-001 by Audiovox. If you open the main can you will see a JTAG connector. Have not played with mine yet they are still on. Bought them used almost two years ago, plugged them in and they worked. Paid $12 and $25 for them at a flea market. Only thing I did not get was antenna's and they are cheap.

I can't believe no one has ever tried it. This is wild.

I kinda figured I'd get a, "Well duh..." kind of response for asking the question.

From what I can see of them, there is not enough in them to do anything but simple key based encryption -- practically a direct FTA.

Am I maybe asking the wrong question -- is it done simply through cloning?

Someone over a rom10x has gone thru sat radio units. He removed the tsops, dumped virgin units and subbed then compared. All kinds of things. No Go.

One thing I would like to say though. If we start hacking these sat radios while the company is fairly new we have the risk of running them right out of the sky and we will have nothing.

I mean, we manage to hack every receiver E-Star ever made. Yet, silly little Sat radios stand undefeated. What is it that makes them so hard to crack???

For the price of the service who cares about hacking them. If you want it so bad, then figure out the hack.

Good point. If Dish or bell have the same prices I think you would not see much people hacking it
