Comcast cable in South Florida??? - 3rd November 2009, 06:44 PM

I have a friend in South Florida who has a very basic Comcast sub. He gets up to channel 75. Today he could only receive up to channel 25.On channel 26 to 75 now it says that you need a digital devise to view channels 26 through 75 . Comcast says you have to get this devise, which looks like a cable box, from them and they have to activate it. They will give you two free ones and you have to pay for the rest.

Is there anyway around this to get the channels from 26 to 75??

My friend is paying for only the basic channels since he canceled channels 26 through 75 but they never came out and disconnected them. He does not want to create any waves since he was receiving 26 through 75 without the extra fee.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Blusky,
You are posting on an analog forum, not a digital forum. Now, if the channels were changed over from analog to digital, and they are probably not lying about this, you will need a digital box. And since you imply, that he was getting them, as they did not come out to disconnect them, and now he cannot get them, I would assume that it happened.

So if he looks at the channels, and they are white, and he hears static noise, then they are pure digital.

So you will have to find out the model of the digital box they are using, and then go to a digital forum, and ask there. And I can tell you right now, no one has cracked any digital box!!! Some have managed to turn on some channels, the ones that were in a box from a former subscriber, by playing with the code bytes in a storage chip, but beyond that, na da! Nothing!

Sorry for the bad news, but it is the same news that all digital people now know too....If he wants the channels, he will have to pay for them, or do without!

Thanks for your response Onlyme . I went over my friends house and it was just as you described. They are getting rid of the analog channels and now you will need a digital box.
I saw the digital box and it has a mac address which leads me to believe that there is two way communication just like their HD boxes.
Oh well, I will inform my freind of the situation.

Thanks.
