Greetings,

Would the number appearing on the device be correct: LA728 ?

What device is the IC used in?

Here are a couple of Google searches on the LA728.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...q=f&oq=&aqi=g3

http://jp.ic-on-line.cn/iol_la728/da...list/la728.htm

I don't know if any of the above will be helpful. Please let of know.

Good luck,

Hello,

Thank you very much for your fast reply.
Unfortunately, this doesn't help me, the IC is from a copier's consumables and it is keeping the data about the usage, remaining life and so on.
I cutted the half of its connection and I managed to get the 'belly' of the chip pictured, the link is below:

Thanks again,

That sheds more light on the picture, the description , that is. I'm not familiar with copiers, so I can't say for certain, but I would suspect a EEprom of some kind, or depending on how the data is fed to it, I could be a small micro with an internal eeprom to store the data.

I checked alldatasheet with the numbers on the chip, I just came up with a couple of oscillators, so I would suspect this is a custom chip of some kind.

Unfortunately none of the info pictured ON the chip helps much ... if you could trace out the circuitry around it a develop a schematic diagram for it ...the functional parameters of the chip could be inferred.
Voltage readings and ( if you have a scope) waveforms associated with the chip would also be great !
IF you can trace back the circuitry to another chip on the board ...you might be able to get more info...for example ..if it connects to the I2C port of a microprocessor ...you can use that info to poke away at the mystery chip.

Hope that helps.
