Does any one know the memory location for the unit ID in the 4dtv. I have found a way to access and edit the memory (on screen). but I am unable to locate it. Once I find it I can clone a unit id to my box!

according to tests UID on DSR family receivers is located on several PARTS that is The XC chip wich every boot dowloads a copy to ram and nvram and it is accesible via bdm conector but the xc chip is not accesible in any way yet. But if you can access on screen and if i can install a new xc chip perhaps we can solve the trouble regarding to LOST UNIT ID.

That would be nice. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a unit that lost it's ID and is setting on a shelf. I'm not a coder, but can weild a soldering iron. There must be something that can be done with these units. For example, can they be made into FTA units? Can they be j-tagged and programmed? From what I have read, Motorola has stopped the manufacture of these units. If that be the case, wouldn't fooling around with them be a green light now? There are many programs that are digicipher. And as far as people go, they will get whatever solution that works. Even if it is a big dish. Like I said, I'm no coder. I'm just thinking out loud and wondering. Have a great day!

Well if there are any fta like satmex 5 and if they are free(clear) you can watch them but if your unit losts its digital id you cant receive nothing at all the trouble is again in the XC chip wich in essence it is a des processor with internal registers wich hold the seed keys and keys with a battery back up once they are lost there is nothing left to do as this chip is what manages the access to the channels search for motorola patents regarding to EMS entitlement control messages this xc chip does exactly that function the rest of the board is a tuner modem an mpg decoder remote control functions and some more things the interesting part is inside that xc chip ill give one kidney of mine for the datasheet of the XC78066-9.
